Like many southerners, I go by 2 names. My real first name is Elise. Virtually no one calls me by that name but it is my name. It is a beautiful name that gets misread as Elsie and I have made the Borden Cow my spirit animal because of our “shared” name. Everyone knows me in life as “Shelly”. Elise is my banking and document name so hence the Into the World Photography is Elise’s domain. Call me either one, I just may look around until I realize you are talking to me if you call me Elise!

I am a real southerner. I was born in South Carolina and am old enough to remember when not everywhere was air-conditioned. Now you know I am from the south and old! I grew up in Charlotte and I was blessed to have attended a high school that appreciated the arts. That is where I learned photography the “old school” way. We rolled our own film, processed in our own dark room and printed on enlargers. We were NOT in the digital age.

I worked in an unrelated industry after high school, got married to my fantastically supportive husband Steve and we raised three really incredible kids who are all grown up. God truly blessed us and it is HIS vision and provision that is providing my next steps.

While we were living in Atlanta, Georgia, I decided to go back to school. I have a degree in Education from Appalachian State (GO MOUNTAINEERS!) but I have always been passionate about photography. I went to the University of North Georgia and earned my Professional Photography Certification in 2013. So much has drastically changed with the advent of digital photography, but knowing how to do “old school”photography gave me a distinct advantage. Concepts of lighting, color and composition do not change; only the method to improve the capture and look of the photograph does.

We are now living in Lake Wylie and it is our last move (we’ve been all over the country) I am so excited to be home. I have been given the unique gift of relaying visually what God wants everyone to seen HIS world: beauty and grace. We were given the finest example of beauty and grace in God’s son Jesus. He embodied and demonstrated how we as followers should love God and love all people. My worldview follows the commandments Jesus gave to HIS people. (Matt. 22:38-40) I try my best to follow these commands. I try my very best to conduct my business according to this worldview. To God be all the glory and bless you for visiting!
